먼 나라의 재난도, 그곳에 가족과 친구를 둔 이에게는 결코 먼 일이 아닙니다.

최근 네팔에서 발생한 큰 홍수와 산사태로 많은 생명이 희생되고 삶의 터전이 무너졌다는 소식에 세종대학교는 깊은 슬픔과 위로의 마음을 전합니다.

우리 대학에는 세계 여러 나라에서 온 학생들이 함께 공부하고 있습니다. 그 가운데 네팔에서 온 학생들 역시 세종대학교라는 이름 아래 함께 배우고 생활하는 우리 공동체의 소중한 구성원입니다.

고국의 가족과 친지의 안위를 걱정하며 마음 졸이고 있을 학생들이 있으리라 생각합니다. 우리대학은 현재 네팔 학생들의 상황과 피해 여부를 살피고 있습니다. 이번 재난으로 학업이나 학교생활에 어려움을 겪는 학생이 있다면, 그 사정을 세심히 살펴 대학이 할 수 있는 일을 함께 찾아가겠습니다.

대학은 지식을 배우는 곳이지만, 사람의 어려움을 외면하지 않는 법을 배우는 곳이기도 합니다. 서로 다른 나라에서 왔더라도 한 교정에서 함께 공부하는 순간 우리는 하나의 공동체가 됩니다. 어려움에 처한 이의 곁을 지키는 일 또한 대학이 지켜야 할 중요한 가치라고 생각합니다.

이번 재난으로 삶을 잃은 분들의 명복을 빌며, 사랑하는 이를 잃은 모든 분들께 깊은 애도의 마음을 전합니다.

상처 입은 땅이 하루빨리 회복되고, 네팔의 모든 가정에 다시 평온한 일상이 찾아오기를 세종대학교 구성원 모두의 마음을 모아 기원합니다.

A Message of Sympathy and Solidarity with Nepal

A disaster may happen far away, but for those whose families and friends are there, it is never truly distant.

Sejong University extends its deepest sympathy and condolences following the devastating floods and landslides in Nepal, which have claimed many lives and destroyed homes and communities.

Our University is home to students from many parts of the world. Among them, our Nepalese students are valued members of the Sejong community, learning, living, and growing together with us on the same campus.

We know that some of our students may be deeply worried about the safety and well-being of their families and loved ones back home. Sejong University is currently reaching out to our Nepalese students to understand their circumstances and whether they or their families have been affected. If any student is facing difficulties in their studies or campus life as a result of this disaster, we will listen carefully to their circumstances and consider how the University may best support them.

A university is a place where we pursue knowledge, but it is also a place where we learn not to turn away from the hardship of others. Though we may come from different countries and cultures, once we study and live together on the same campus, we become part of one community. Standing beside those who are facing difficult times is also one of the values a university should uphold.

We mourn those who have lost their lives and extend our heartfelt condolences to all who have lost loved ones.

With the shared hopes of the entire Sejong University community, we sincerely wish for the swift recovery of the affected areas and for peace and normalcy to return soon to families across Nepal.
